Rosa x irregularis (R. arvensis x R. canina)

Partially fertile hybrid between Field-rose and Dog-rose.

Flowering June - July. Deciduous shrub. Native.

Very similar to Dog-rose, R. canina but some young stems have strong reddish pigmentation. Usually produces well-formed fertile hips as well as some sterile hips. Hips sometimes with flatter disc and fused styles. Pedicels (flower stalks) often with some glandular hairs. Arching stems.

Woodland edges, hedgerows, avoids very acidic soils. Infrequently recorded.
