Flowering June - July. Deciduous shrub. Native.

Clusters of 2-5 white flowers, styles joined in column longer than stamens.
Sepals undivided, patent, falling early. Disc flat. Fruit red, rounded, hairless.
Pinnate leaves, 5-7 leaflets. Weak stems, green below, often reddish above.
Sparse prickles, slender, usually hooked. Clambering or trailing growth habit.

Hedgerows, woods, thickets. Frequent in SE Ireland, occasional in centre, S. NE. Identified by Paul Green.
