Dog-rose x Harsh Downy-rose
Rosa x scabriuscula (R. canina x R. tomentosa)
Family: Rosaceae

Flowering June - July. Deciduous shrub. Native.

Usually fertile. Very similar to Rosa canina x R. sherardii (R. x rothschildii) and to Dog-rose, R. canina.
Small hips on long stalks with some glandular hairs. Leaflets downy underneath with glands at leaf edges, dark green. Robust climbing or flexuous stems.

Grows in mildly acidic to calcareous soils. Woodland edges, roadsides, hedges, scrub. Infrequently recorded, mainly from eastern half of Ireland.
