Clusters of pendulous whitish-green flowers. Fruit is a poisonous black-blue berry. Alternate, un-toothed, pointed leaves growing from each side of stem. Hairless, arching, round stems. Height: 30-80cm.

Prefers calcareous soils in damp, deciduous woodland. Occasional garden escape. Introduced.
