Flowering time: May-August. Perennial. Native.

Leafy spikes pale blue flowers, sometimes pink, 4-8 mm. Petals slightly notched. Yellow eye, white honey-guides. Long fruit-stalks. Oblong-oval leaves, broadest above middle. Many leafy runners. Upper stem has adpressed hairs, lower stem covered with long, spreading hairs.

Found on peaty acidic ground, avoids calcareous soils. Marshes, bogs, wet
upland heaths. Less frequent in central Ireland.
