Woodruff Umbel-like heads of small white flowers, 4-petalled. Whorls of 6-9 pointed narrow leaves, vanilla-scented when bruised. Leaves single-veined, short tip at point. Many underground runners. Erect 4-angled un-branched stems, hairless. To 45cm. Occasional, mostly in northern half of Ireland. Found on calcareous rich, damp, shady soils, usually in woodland. Similar: Wild Madder, Rubia peregrina
