Flowering: March-July. Evergreen undershrub. Garden escape.

Solitary blue-violet flowers with white at base of petals. Calyx teeth hairless. Flowers occasionally purple. Shiny green leaves, broad lanceolate, stalked. Leaf edges have tiny hairs. Variegated form also occurs. (Photo below right.) Trailing, rooting stems. Height: to 45cm, spread indefinite.

Hedges, roadsides, waste ground, usually near habitation. Introduced.
