Hedge Woundwort Deep red-purple flowers with white lip pattern in terminal spikes. Most fruit ripens. Hairy leaves, heart-shaped, pointed. All leaves stalked. Similar to nettle leaves but without sting. Strong-smelling, pungent when bruised. Height 30-80cm. Very frequent. Woods, hedgebanks, roadsides. Similar: Marsh Woundwort, S. palustris. Paler pink-purple flowers. Lanceolate leaves, less pungent smell. Hybrids occur. |
