White flowers, slightly scented with 20-25 petals. Round dark green leaves,
long-stalked, floating. Fleshy roots and leaves grow from rhizomes on pond base.

Most frequent in S and W Ireland. Ponds, lakes, slow-moving rivers.

Similar: Yellow Water-lily, Nuphar lutea. Large, round leathery floating leaves. Small yellow flowers. Native.
