Yellow Water-lily
Nuphar lutea
Cabhán abhann
Family: Nymphaeaceae

Flowering time: June-August. Aquatic perennial. Native.

Yellow flowers with 6 large yellow sepals, approx 20 small narrow petals.
Leathery cordate floating leaves on long rope-like stems.
Smaller submerged leaves. Grows from large submerged rootstock, shown
below left exposed by low water levels. Water depth: 0.5 to 2.5m.

Throughout Ireland, but less frequent in E and S. Slow-moving rivers, lakes,
canals. Prefers nutrient-rich water.
