Red/pink flowers in loose upright spikes. Fruiting sepals slightly enlarged,
shorter than nut. Shiny, hairless hastate leaves, basal lobes spreading.
Erect stems, slender creeping rhizomes. Height: 7-30 cm.

Dry acidic ground. Heaths, shingle beaches, roadsides, nutrient-poor
grassland and arable land.
