Inconspicuous greenish flowers followed by triangular fruit bracteoles.
Diamond-shaped lower leaves, tips toothed, sharply pointed. Upper leaves linear-oblong. Erect or prostrate, 15-60cm. Very variable. Hybridization occurs.

Frequent, fertile wasteland, arable land, salted roadsides, beaches, salt marshes.
