Flowering July - August. Floating perennial. Native.

White flowers, three-petalled with yellow spot at base of petals. Long stalks raise flowers above water level. Solitary female flowers, male 2-3 in two-bract spathe. Long-stalked, floating leaves, rounded-kidney shaped, papery basal stipules. Free-floating with long runners. Buds overwinter in mud.

Ponds, fens, ditches, slow-moving canals. Mainly found in central and E Ireland.
