Flowering spring. Rhizomatous perennial. Introduced, garden escape.

Large foul-smelling flowers with yellow spathe and a greenish spadix. Very large, stalked leaves, the leaf blades 35-150cm long. Contains calcium oxalate crystals. Rhizines 30cm+ long.

Occurs as an occasional garden escape or relic of cultivation. Naturalised on river and canal banks and in wet woodland and marshes.
