Flowering June-August. Perennial. Native.

Small greenish-white flowers at base of branches, fruit is small red berry.
Dioecious - male and female flowers on separate plants. Much branched with many tufts of stiff, often glaucous-green, needle-like leaves (reduced stems). Growth is usually procumbent, stems 30-60cm.

Grassy dunes, often by paths. Very rare, only found on the SE coast of Ireland.
