Flowering July-August. Perennial. Native.

Raceme of white flowerheads, 3-10 clearly separated male heads above, 3-4 female below. Fruit are ellipsoid, tapering to beak. Stem leaves strongly keeled, bases not inflated. Stems erect or more/less floating, to 60cm. Rhizomatous.

Occasional in still or slow-moving water. Streams, lake-margins, ditches. More frequent in northern half of Ireland.
