Garden Pansy Short-lived perennials, usually grown as annuals or biennials. Garden escape. Five-petalled flowers, more/less rounded, side petals overlapping upper and lower petals. Bi-coloured with central patterned 'faces', also a wide range of single coloured forms. Ovate to heart-shaped leaves, shallow-lobed, glossy-green. Similar: Violas. Tufted perennials. Smaller flowers, often scented. Popular garden bedding plants, occasionally found as garden escape or discard on roadsides, waste ground, rubbish tips.
