Irish Saxifrage 5-petalled white flowers with erect sepals on erect glandular-hairy stems. Leaves in rosettes, palmately 3-7 lobed, without hair-like tip. Often reddish at flowering time. Low cushion or mat-forming growth. Very variable. Moist but well-drained rocky or stony ground. Streamsides, cliff-ledges, scree, sea-cliffs. Found at sea level on the Aran Islands and in the Burren, Co.Clare, also found in the Kerry mountains. Decreasing, but is possibly under-recorded. |
