Annual. Introduced, garden escape.

Dark-blue flowers with white centres, solitary in leaf-axils. Very distinctive fruit, calyx-segments are fused in bi-lobed pairs enclosing smaller seed capsules.

Locally abundant, mainly in Co.Cork, established and increasing.
Roadsides, woodland, waste ground, occasionally on cultivated ground.
First recorded Cork city 1904, probably as an escape from Cork Botanic Garden.
