Rhizomatous perennial. Garden escape. Introduced.

White or pale mauve flowers with yellow stamens. Some varieties
produce small green fruit containing many seeds. Edible underground tubers. Leaves, fruit and green tubers are not edible.

Waste and cultivated ground, rubbish tips, coastal shingle. Fairly frequent
garden discard but probably under-recorded. Usually casual, rarely persists.
