Escallonia Deep pink-red flowers, 5-petalled. Sticky young shoots. Shiny mid to dark green leaves, leathery, stalkless, alternate. Finely-toothed leaves. Slightly frost-tender. Height: To 3m. Relic of cultivation, also self-seeded on waste ground, roadsides, woodland, walls, hedge banks. Found in S, W, N coastal areas, also inland in SW Ireland. Naturalised garden escape, increasing. |
