Flowering: June-August. Annual. Probably introduced.

Pale scarlet flowers, sometimes blotched at base, Bluish-black anthers. Oblong, hairless seed capsule. Flower stalk with close-pressed hairs. Grey-green leaves, pinnately lobed. Hairy plant, contains latex. Long-lived seeds. Height: To 60cm.

Calcareous soils, arable, waste ground, roadsides.
