Flowering time: July-September. Annual or biennial. Introduced.

Panicles of pale-yellow flowers with greyish achenes. Unequal bracts. Achenes olive-grey, purple-tipped, beaked. Pappus equal, with simple hairs. Thick oblong-lanceolate, waxy-green leaves. Lower often pinnate, stem-clasping. Spines on leaf edges and undersides of white veins. Height: 30-120cm.

Disturbed ground, roadsides, waste ground. Increasing since 1990's.
Rare casual. Introduced.
