Sand Spurrey Lilac-pink flowers, 5-petalled, petals shorter than sepals. Sepals and flowerstalks are more/less sticky-hairy. Unwinged seeds. Whorls of narrow, non-fleshy dull green leaves ending in short bristle. Silvery stipule at base of whorls. Lower parts of plant are hairless. More/less prostrate branches. To 30cm. Free-draining, open sand or gravel. Rare. Scattered distribution, mainly S and NE Ireland. Only Spergularia also found inland. |
