Betony Whorls of purple-red flowers in dense spikes. Calyx with bristle-pointed teeth. Leaves coarsely blunt-toothed, lower stalked, upper paired, un-stalked. Basal leaf-rosettes. Slightly hairy. Height: 15-60cm. Light acidic or neutral/calcareous soils. Grassland, heaths, wood-edges. Rare, mainly SW Ireland. Endangered species, covered by 1999 Flora Protection Order. |
