Flowering time: July-August. Perennial. Native.

Pink-purple 4-petalled flowers with notched petals, club-shaped stigma.
Lower leaves opposite, upper alternate. Oval-lanceolate, un-stalked, toothed.
Stems with 4 raised ridges. Elongated runners produced in summer. Slightly hairy.

Frequent. Neutral to slightly acidic soils. Moist woodland, stream edges, marshes, walls, waste ground.

Similar: Square-stalked Willowherb, E. tetragonum. Rare in Ireland.
