Chicory Leafy spikes of bright-blue, many-rayed flowers. Basal leaves are short-stalked, lobed and toothed. Upper leaves are lanceolate, clasping the stem. Erect, branched stems are grooved and more/less hairy. Height: 40-100cm. Roadsides, waste ground, rough grassland. Prefers calcareous soils. |
Photograph left is probably a salad cultivar, Foliosum Group. Leaves are less hairy, more rounded and with entire margins. |
