Flowering: September-December. Fruiting: following September-December.
Evergreen small tree. Native.

Small creamy bell-shaped flowers. Red fruit, round, warty. Edible but tasteless.
Evergreen leaves, toothed, pointed. Dark green above, paler below.
Reddish-brown bark, peeling with age. Height: to 12m

Heathy scrub and open oak woodland on shallow soil. Previously more common in Cork and Kerry and used for charcoal making. Now is only native in counties Cork, Kerry and Sligo.
