Flowering: March-May. Evergreen tree / large shrub. Introduced. Garden escape.

White flowers in erect racemes followed by non-edible black berries. Evergreen shiny-green leathery leaves, small-toothed. Spreads by bird-sown seeds and root suckering. Height to 7m.

Woods, waste ground, roadsides. Widespread garden escape, can be invasive.
