Shoreweed Tiny, single greenish-white male flowers on stalks, female flowers unstalked at base of same plant. Only flowers when water levels drop and plants exposed. Fruit is a minute nut surrounded by pericarp. Leaves flat one side, rounded on other, hairless, spongy. Brown stipule at base. Rooting runners form tufts or rosettes. Lakeshores, loughs and reservoirs on mud, sand or gravel. Found throughout Ireland, most frequent in North and West.
