Flowering time: May-October. Aquatic or terrestrial annual. Native.

Tiny white 5-petalled flowers, 2-3 per stalk. Narrow spoon-shaped slightly succulent leaves. Reddish-green straggling stems, often forming a thick cushion. Spread to 50cm. Four subspecies recognised.

Terrestrial form is frequent on bare, damp, acidic ground. Aquatic form grows in streams, springs.

Similar: Common Water-starwort, Callitriche stagnalis.
Stems much thinner, petal-less green flowers with yellow stamens
