Flowering time: May-September. Aquatic perennial. Native.

Dense spikes of small flowers with 4 stamens, in leaf axils. Separate carpels
ripen to red-brown nutlets. Oval-lanceolate floating leaves, often reddish-green.
Submerged leaves present in young plants, stalked, lanceolate. Very variable.

Shallow, acidic ponds and streams. Land-forms found can be found growing on
mud and sphagnum moss.
