Dull violet flowers, yellow-brown centre, purple veins.
Fleshy fruit capsules with red seeds. Evergreen leaves, dark green,
sword-shaped. Unpleasant smell when crushed. Height: 40-80cm

Relic of cultivation or garden escape. Prefers calcareous soil, woodlands, hedgerows. Possibly native some places, but mainly introduced garden escape.
