Flowering: May-September. Evergreen perennial. Native.

Dense round heads of fragrant pink or white flowers with 5 petals. Papery calyx, fine-toothed. Un-branched flower stems. Inner bracts membranous, outer green. Round cushions of dark green, linear leaves. Flower stems: To 20cm.

Usually coastal. Rocks, cliffs, salt marshes, coastal road banks and walls. Occasional inland in N, W Ireland on mountain ledges.
