Water-crowfoots variation due to water speeds and hybridisation. There are 10 species native to Ireland, found growing on mud or in water. All have similar flowers, white with yellow blotch at petal base. Normally 5 petals and 5 sepals. Transversely ridged fruit. Stems can have broad-lobed (laminar) normally floating leaves, finely divided submerged (capillary) leaves or a combination of both (heterophyllus). Round-leaved Crowfoot, R. omiophyllus.
